Preamble to the Constitution of the Ancient Order
of Hibernians

It is hereby declared and decreed, that the prupose of this Organization,
the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America is:
- To promote friendship, unity and Christian Charity among its
members.
- To uphold and sustain loyalty to the government of the United
States of America, by the members of this Oganization living here
in America, or whatever government under which its members may
be citizens.
- To aid and advance by all legitimate means the aspirations
and endeavors of the Irish people for complete and absolute independence.
- And to foster the ideals and cultivate the history and traditions
of the Irish race throughout the world.
Its membership is confined exclusively to practical Irish Catholics
of blood or descent, who are citizens of the United States or who
have declared their intentions to become citizens of the United States,
and to citizens of the commonwealth of Canada or any other Democratic
government on the Western Hemisphere.
Its work embraces every lawful demand of Christian friendship and
fraternity between its members and the protection of all dependant
on them. Under its Constitution, provision is made for the care of
the sick and the infirm among the membership and for the protection
of widows and orphans in accordance with the dictates of Christian
fraternity.
